Chocolate is my daily bread. I look forward to a substantial piece of chocolate
of some kind at the end of every day. It gives me a reason to celebrate when
I have had a good day, and it is a comfort when the day has been less than
sunny. And I can provide this dose of small luxury for myself.
Become aware of what you need on a daily basis and provide this for yourself
and you will be rewarded with contentment. Aim for contentment and let
moments of sheer joy be the icing on the cake.
And as satisfying as chocolate is, it is no replacement for life’s greatest treasures
such as spending time with family and good friends. Value those moments!!!
My new saying is “family and friends are life’s greatest treasures, and sharing
a meal with them one of life’s greatest pleasures!” And please read my friend
Lynne’s new blog “theperfectbinge.wordpress.com” to get ideas and inspiration
for entertaining. Lynne can help you get organized and excited about planning
dinner parties! “Entertaining is FUN!” is her motto.
While chocolate is my daily bread, it is meant to augment, not be a substitute
for other equally valuable things in life that we need everyday, such as
laughter and a good sense of humor. Have you laughed today? Don’t be so
serious about life. If you can’t muster up a good belly laugh, watch a funny
movie or a good sitcom rerun (my Mom and I love to watch ” Two and a Half Men”
at the end of the day for a guarenteed laugh!) or read something funny. Last night,
I picked up a David Sedaris book and found myself in fits of laughter over his
description of two birds pecking on a window. In fact, reading something funny
or inspirational is a good way to begin and end each day. Ideally, I begin the day
with something inspirational (intentionally skipping the news until I can digest it
without getting indigestion, which is in bits and pieces throughout the day!), and I
like to end the day with something funny. What a way to go to sleep, feeling relaxed
and happy! Oh, and did I mention the need for getting enough sleep? Most of us
are probably lacking in that area and I recently read that getting enough sleep
boosts your metabolism. Good enough reason to put some attention on creating
a soothing bedtime routine. Sweet dreams and pleasant wishes for more tending
to your own inner garden! Be well.
what is your daily bread?

Hi Debbie,
What is your favorite type of chocolate? And what is a substantial piece for you?
Hi Erika! Those are great questions! Most nights I have a huge chocolate chip cookie with m&ms (measuring about 4 by 4 inches! Seriously, I have to have my sweets. As for a favorite chocolate, I tend to buy any good (meaning usually Swiss) dark or semi-sweet chocolate bar (I go for the 100 gram size!) I do love a big piece of chocolate cake or a large brownie too. I will take a picture of the next piece of cake I eat and send it to you. Now that is the only sweet I will have in any given day. Happy eating and thanks again for your questions!

Hi Debbie,
In the morning, when you skip breakfast, do you just get through being hungry with the coffee? I definitely love dessert and would like to have a piece every day and skip breakfast and wait till after dinner when I can sit down and really enjoy it.
Hi Erika,
Oh, I don't like the thought of anyone having to power through their hunger. Hopefully I didn't sound too harsh when I said I skip breakfast, but I found that I like having my two cups of coffee with whole milk in the morning while I have my reading and writing time and save my meal for brunch or lunch. Most days I am just not hungry until noon, but on the days I am hungry, I make myself a bowl of fruit and sit down at the table to eat it. I shouldn't tell on my husband, but, he peels himself an orange in the morning and eats it over the sink, which I think does not really register in your mind as having eaten! The act of sitting down to eat is important.
I would find a way to eat that satisfies you, uniquely, which sounds as if you could have a light breakfast and a light lunch, then a medium dinner and a piece of dessert after dinner. Use your clothes as your guide. If after a few days they fit a bit snugly, don't panic, just cut out something you won't really miss and still have your dessert. I would feel deprived without dessert, but not without bread! So that is what I cut out first and find my clothes fitting fine. You can always fill up on vegetables and fruit without worry, so no need to feel hungry.
Thanks again for your comments and questions. I wish you happy dessert eating and much success!
